Dennis Coffey

Dennis Coffey, famed for his psychedelic guitar sound on Norman Whitfield productions like Temptations’ Ball of Confusion and Cloud Nine (Motown, 1969), was also an important figure in the Sussex family. He released 5 solo albums filled with trippy funky guitar tunes, also gaining some chart success with Scorpio. Before joining Sussex he already released his solo debut Hair and Thangs on Maverick (1969). While working at Sussex, he also composed the soundtrack to the blaxploitation karate cult classic Black Belt Jones (Weintraub-Heller 1973), which became a classic among soundtrack lovers. In the latter half of the seventies he also released a string of decent albums for the Westbound.
